Quick and dirty skin and frit for impatient imperfectionists

Just started with it and on one of the decks I have a couple of small holes filled with silicone, which predictably caused the dreaded fish eyes.

I’m thinking of sanding/carving that area a little bit, cover with wood paste/putty and then apply a second coat of white, while the first is still tacky.

Does it seem like a good idea?..

After a quick test, ended up covering the silicone areas with CA glue.
It doesn’t seem to cause fish eyes and cures much quicker than wood putty.

I had this happen on one of those decks above. Fucking fisheyes everywhere. Fuck knows what caused it.

I laid fibreglass into the first coat before it had properly tacked, smoothed it out with a squeegee and a fresh layer of resin. Worked like a charm.

I’m sure you learned, but in the future fuck silicon, nothing really sticks to it.
I either use silica or milled FG mixed in resin to fill holes(both learned for sir Albert) with good results.

Yeah, I screwed this one… didn’t want to continue with it in this state.
I also got some unmixed white pigment this time, which was laying in the bottom of the cup.

Will try to remove all silicone and CA glue, sand, apply wood paste to fill the holes and go again at it.

Yeah, fuck silicone. Good for epoxy molds though :joy:

In the future, batches of four please.

Lol that would require more people buying skins, or me just skinning decks for fun… and its not actually that much fun

Dang you must be fast

My well sharpened chisel is my tool of choice so far. It is actually addictive to feel it cut through the fabric…
Also amazing to remove the epoxy leftovers on the bottom of the deck.

The white went better this time

M5 rivets what is the best solution to keep them in the holes ? I have Epoxy and some wood and fiberglass dust/shavings

Yeah it’s not perfect but the enclosure holes were already pre drilled :joy:

Inserts are always a struggle. I really feel like you’re best to just go through both sides of the deck and just use bolts or sex bolts.

If you skin over the top of sex bolts, there is definitely potential for them to come loose and be unusable.
