Been doing it just to ensure gps is active before riding. Will test without it and see if it’s as reliable.

You don’t need to start logging via the app. You can just turn the board on and logging will kick on based on ERPM threshold.
GPS also has a light indicator + a satellite lock sound.

What is better than decent? I like to cruise around 40 mph depending on traffic/board selection. How fast were you going when you did that thing to your face?

Nearly 50kph.
I like to cruise at around 40kph , but my average speed from my logs is generally less than 25.
I suppose it depends on how many stop/starts you have, but an 18km ride with an average speed over 30 is a nice ride in my books

I believe robo averages the speed of the whole ride, stops included, not just when the wheels are spinning.
