Shit, 18 days later… Been quite busy with end of year projects with the kid and throwing a grad party for my bb bro, but managed to get a little shit done.
Bed liner turned out pretty decent. There are a couple fuck up spots from the first coat that show through a lil.
Leaned a bit, will be better next time, but overall I’m pleased with my first foray into spraying shit.
My mica experiment was not a total success. The masking completely failed. I assume due to the texture of the bedliner. So whether Al disowns me or not, this is how the enclosure will be. I have other places I plan to incorporate the pink be it resin or printed.
Plan was to do the curves in pink, but after the masking fail, I gave up, and was happy with the cleanliness of just the green on the center lines.
2k clear coated some shit. Sidekick turned out
.Black and white ended up with a little orange peel and drips. Grabbed a wetsanding/polishing kit to clean it up, I’ll get to that experiment someday here.
Orange vanguard is already being ridden by cuz, stoked to get a ride on it soon.
Dicking around with mica and resin. Need to get back to it and finish it.
Enclosure assembly is done. Disassembly will be a PIA😅
Any trouble spots got extra padding/sleeving to do my best to avoid vibration/abrasion issues. Nearly every wire was custom mapped/crimped/soldered to save as much space as possible. Space constraints were tight, but hopefully can fit a Core in the future.
The @poastoast bungholio was hacked in with hot glue for now so I can adjust the design/print color in the future.
Hopefully the next update has a running board and me moving onto the next tb40v2 build. Just have to loctite up the drives, address the phase sleeving a bit differently, finish my remote mica project and bolt this shit together!

Bro that looks great. Well done on the enclosure digging the lines. Bedliner is a good fallback, can’t hardly mess it up and once you scratch it, add some more.
Don’t remember why I thought you mixed it with bedliner. Mica powder is some cool shit. I like to add it to clear poly or light color wood stain for shits and giggles.

Let me ride them a little more.
Quick late night thoughts was they are much softer than refly 97s or any abec clones I’ve ridden. Similar to tb100 74a if not the exact same wheel.
It was pretty plush for a short stiff board, urethane risers and mount points(Moonshine construction)
probably assist that a little.
I can ride them side by side with a buddies tb100s sometime.

Moonshine Sidekick 35in-ish. Bout 12 mi in and I fucking love it! Just long enough to carve a bit deep.
Urethane rails/mounting points and precision mounting planes.

You forgot to mention porn. Moonshine decks are some of the best looking decks i’ve ever seen, in terms of aesthetics and construction. Those guys make some sick shit.

Slow on updates here…
Hogged out the tunnel riser to allow more room for wires to not be smooshed.
Drives got disassembled/reassembled/loctited. Had a late one the next night getting everything assembled. Set off for a maiden voyage about 3am. It went off without a hitch
. Instantly felt comfortable and loved the feel of the deck. It was my first ride on gears, first ride on my first full build, many firsts, felt damn good.Free roll on the M1 straight cut was the best I’ve felt other than a hub board.
Got a few rides over the next few days solidifying my happiness with the build. It fits the quiver spot I planned for better than expected: a medium range mallgrabbable shortboard meant for short trips, dog runs and up to 15-20mi smooth road rips/group rides.
Then I noticed this after riding shitty streets in the city.
Threw it on the charger and monitored it to see if it was just a blip in what was a perfectly balanced pack prior.
It wasn’t, disassembled it, inspected cell 12 and deemed it needed to be sent of to the doctor for a bit of rework.
I lost a bit of building mojo cause of it, and took some time to focus on family and relax for a bit. I should have the pack back within a week or so now, so gearing up and getting somethings done.
I’m gonna swap to the 2.2/1 speed gears as I was consistently riding full throttle which ended up being around 27mph. Was expecting a little more, so either my efficiency is around 80% or the 190kv motors are a decent bit less, probably a combo of the 2.
I’ve buttoned up the tayto to sell, swapped back to vx1, swapped robo for DRI nrf52 and taken it for a couple 7mi rides to make sure it’s solid for sale.
2 main things b4 I jump right into the tb40v2 build is finally wet sand the black/white skinned backfire and get that posted for sale, and clean up my God awful mess of a workshop.
Motivation is coming back and stoked to continue on this journey and add to my quiver.

Picked up this fun little diddly from sceptor. My first hub board. Pretty fun little board, took it for a couple mile bar run after a group ride last week.
Tayto is cleaned up, posted on Fb and ready to go to aa new home.
Already getting parts for a 3rd build when I haven’t started my 2nd. 3-links/motors/bergs/esc in hand, will most likely be a RE44(patiently waiting in line) build.
For the tb40v2 enclosure, I planned on trying to skin it since I have extra fabric. Plans may change in the name of science. Found this the other day.

Uffda I’ve been neglecting this workshop. Hmm what have I been up to…
Hurt my foot and ate a big burrito.
Recovered from that and have put a couple hundred miles on Kirby. Swapped down to 2.2 gearing so I can ride at what ever speed I feel comfortable with through the whole discharge cycle(tops out at 35.5mph now). Board has been running great since the initial battery woes. It fills the quiver spot I imagined and more, but am eager to get a commuter rolling soon so I can relax a little more on my rides. The 35" deck really makes me have to be on my game at all times, not much room to relax unless pretty low speed.
Cleaned my workspace and made a mess of it again
Put a new board/screen in printer, twice.
Now the fun stuff. Been working on the tb40 and pumped to get this rolling. Would like to beat the freesk8 remote, but unsure if that’ll happen.
To make enough clearance for the drives in a dropthrough config, I had to route out the deck to flush the baseplates for an extra 8mm or so of clearance.
Luckily I have Al looking out for my well being and got convinced to reinforce the top/bottom with fiberglass in hopes I/the deck don’t explode.(love the wetted bamboo look)
Moving on, ready for the skin.

, not perfect, but was the smoothest fabric application yet.
Gonna sand the rails and bottom tonight. Need to pick out a paint yet for the bottom. Hoping to wrap that and clear coat by the end of Monday.
Enclosure detail is next. I have to patch a couple holes and decide what finish I want. The thick 5mm abs makes me want to say fuck it and just get it rolling, but I’ll probably give in to better judgment and reinforce it.
After that the rest is easy, maybe a panel mount to deal with. Other than that, just general assembly.

I made a mess and cleaned it up. Half assed research can be worse than no research. I managed to save it though.
I painted the up the deck. Landed on flat black under clearcoat after testing a few blacks. It seemed to give the black a little depth with a slight gray tone to it.

Then 8hrs later rode 15mi on some trails
Had a good paced ride and was getting pretty comfortable in the last half.
The angles have it really carvy with 50/50 on the baseplates. Some bushing/washer adjustments is needed, the RT WFB are really smooth but seem to run softer than their rating.
I’m pretty stoked to have this on the road before winter hits. There is a decent bit of ongoing refinements/additions yet including a 2 in 1 option with a bergs/270/M1 drivetrain.
Anyway, I named it Bob after our resident prop skeleton
The TB logo on the heatsink looks to be a perfect spot for a name tag once its powder coated.

My tb40 is on the bench being stripped of epoxy and excess wood in an attempt to reduce its weight. After ridding a mates recently finished switchblade I realised how much junk in the trunk my daily ride has. This bitch is thick. After Dex broke one of the prerelease TB he went to town fatten that bitch up. Gen 1 tb40 is thick as f**K.

Mine has some heft too. Just rode the Moonshine(12.25kg) tonight for the first time since it finished, so guessing Bob is about 15.5-16 kg.
I may have the duck(dic)grips powder coated when I do the heatsink so I can roll it that way and use as a bumper to stand it upright on.
I have about 100km on it now and getting pretty comfortable on it. Finding my spot is with my front foot half on the drop down and my back foot using the drop down as a ramp. Feels quite locked in that way.
Took it out on a Halloween themed ride and had a blast!
Already mashed a petg drive guard apart. Definitely need to get some hard tpu
