Andys table garage

Had some days on the black see.
Unfortunately without board.
I had a look into ground shipping, but it was just too expensive. Time to get a car :joy:

Back home I finally had an opportunity to testride the 63100s 220kV with 9“ and 1:6.25 gearing.
I was worried about the high pitching nice when spinning up the motors on the bench, but luckily I do ride so slowly most of the time that I do not reach that speed to make the motors cry :joy:
I did combine the testride with a picnic with my better half, which was a very nice trip.
I also had the time to really give them a go on the field we had our dinner.
I need to say that the motors do get a bit quick hot.
Definitely quicker than my 6384s I had on last year.
Need some more rides to find out if that’s the setup I wanna stay with on the 9“ board.

I also did some more sprockets.
This time 05b 45T.

They are about 40g more than the 40T but I wanted to come back to 1:5 gearing on the jump board.
It was 9:40 before and is now 9:45.
Clearance is now similar to the 40T 06b sprockets, which is ok, but not perfect.
Clearance was really great on the 40T 05b sprockets.
I could go 8:40 on 05b, but with 10mm motor shaft that’s not possible.
I would need to buy some 8mm shaft motors which I don’t want to spend money on right now.
So 9:45 needs to be it for now.

Dammit Andy, all these sprocket posts make me want a chain build real bad.

One day…

It’s about time for it.
Just take a day off from silicone and make some sprockets.

One thing I forgot to mention,
The 9:45 gearing with idea mounts does fit the chains without that half offset link.
I‘m very happy about that

Not good, probably means the shaft is bending due to the length and imbalance in the rotor.
I had that happen in some maytech 6374 190kV where they would make a horrible screeching sound at a particular RPM range.

Yeah that’s probably it.
Lose windings can’t be as I fixed them all.
How long did yours hold up till they broke?

I think going longer than 6384 on 63xx motors really isn’t that good in general.
Just wanted to find that out by my own, so here I am :joy:
For so long motors I think it would be good having two motor mounts.
One in the front and one at the back of the can with an extended motor shaft just holding a bearing and AS5047 encoder :face_with_monocle:
Who is going to produce something like that???

A bit over a year. Technically they are still working but one of them has an intermittent internal short that burned up a Focbox twice (first time repaired, second time was fatal) and a VESC6+ once (repaired and still working) so I changed them for another set of 170kV ones I had laying around with no issues so far.

Ah yes, I remember this story when you popped one esc after each other
Just didn’t remember that this motors had that high pitching sound as well.

Too long no update here.
Had a nice evening ride with this one finally

I guess that one ride for this year is done with it than :joy:
I‘m really not sure what to do with that board, I don’t use it at all and honestly also fo not feel that comfortable to ride it.
It’s a nice one for a lazy Sunday trip with the girlfriend, but even than I would probably prefer just to take a push board.

The quad is placed on the rebuild rack for already 2 weeks. Slow progress, but I’m nearly done.
Idea was to add the motor covers like I mentioned above already, plus AS5047 encoder.
I first wanted to mount the encoder between motor sprocket and wheel, but in the end I did not like the idea because the chain might push too much dirt and snow there which might damage the sensor or block the signal.
So I decided to mount the sensor between the motors like I did. or on the Intimbereich setup.
Downside here, not enough space for two sensors.
Means I will run one encoder and one hall sensor motor on the front and back.
Still should be a good improvement.
For mounting I decided to go easy with some long M6 bolts and a printed pcb holder which just slides on.
Like usual I covered the pcb with clear nail polish and some liquid tape after installation.

Not pretty, but I do not mind really.
Installed it is already with one encoder super tight

I had one encoder with a lot of noice which in the end wasn’t recognized by the motor detection as well. Luckily I had ordered 4 encoder and could just wire up another one.
Might be just a cable issue, but always good to have spare.

Need to setup and close everything next week and it’s good to go again.

We also just bought a car this week, so I hope to be able to ride more out of the city and explore some more far places this year.

Finally managed to do the setup.
Had a small issue while doing the motor detection via wizard.
Always good a CAN bus time out close before the detection was finished.
My guess is that it has to do with the fact that the motor detection on the encoder side does take way longer than hall sensor detection which does result in a timeout error.

Single side setup like in the good old days did fix that.

First small esk8 trip.

First ride…

Pinion came lose and the pinion shaft did cut into the wheel gear.
I also found the etoxx gear drive mounts coming lose, on both sides.
Something that I did not have issues with before with smaller motors.

Also found a cut on one of the 9“ mudplugger.
Like the gear drive bolts did hit the tire what shouldn’t be possible at all as there is more than 5mm space in between.

A bit pissed as I probably can’t fix it before being back home.
Let’s hope the second board will hold strong this week.

I probably will switch to @moon steel gear gear drives 1:5.5 as soon as they are available.
Hope I‘m fast enough to get a set before they are sold out :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
This together with those beauty Reacher motors from @glyphiks should be a nice combo.

This happened to me quite a few times. And I assume it is why i also destroyed quite a few gears.

Motors are on their way, should have them in about a week.

Just had a quick session in the MTB park I found yesterday.

Bit too tight turns for me as beginner, but fun non the less…

I’m just gonna go ahead and assume that you said

Rather than

too much alcohol-free beer yesterday

Had a really good time during vacation.
Many nice places I found. Esk8 exploration tours are just the best. One day I was caught by a sudden summer rain, but I could find a shelter under a tree.

I did not ride as much as I thought I will in the dirt park, but looks like I will be in this city next weekend again, so I can give it a go once more.

I had some really steep hill climbs I managed with my dual 6374 8“ setup.
That showed me that there is definitely no need for 63100 motors.
The 63100 closed motors did reach 85 degrees C in like 8-10km easy carving.
On the same way the 6374 open can do get up to 50ish degrees Celsius only. Even during hill climps they did not heat up that bad.
So back home I decided to take off the 63100 motors again.
Will go back my good old 6384 APS motors for now.
The more I drive the more I realize that for me light boards do work better.
As the Etoxx gear drives came lose anyway I decided to give them a go on my Apex Air prototypes.
With the 1:6.25 gearing it just works.
Not 100% perfect as I would like to have a bit less backlash, but it should be fine and I can move the motor more to the front.
To reach that I would need to file down the hanger a bit and I don’t want to do that, so it needs to be good.

I‘m right now printing a 15mm riser as the trucks are too narrow and I would hit the deck on tight turns.

Oh and I think I can use the fucked helical gear for a bit longer. I cleaned up everything and the teeth aren’t fully strip and it’s on the edges only anyway, so should be ok to ride till I got done new gears.
If somebody has some Etoxx helical gears for the Maxi drive and wants to get rid of them, hit me up please. I will buy them

I‘m on a weekend trip again and just before I left a nice parcel from our well known @moon arrived.
The set of Luna trucks and drives are going on the angry bee build.

Running a bit out of time building it right now, but I’ll do my best to get it up on the road this summer.
The prototype hubs I took with me and installed them on Friday morning.

I‘m really surprised how light they are.
First test ride was successful.
Looking forward to more testing.

No better guy to test gear. Look forward to your findings.

First thing I can tell is that even so I use the same wobbly tires as on the superstar hubs, the overall wobble of the wheel became less with the moon hubs.
Precision bearing seats are definitely worth it.
