Nothing like a swizzle stick up the ol pee hole to get me going. Reminds me of the time I almost made it to Canada.

Played with the hummies. Now it’s on me if the joints fail

That looks way better now

Happy with the height, will prob add a 3mm rubber riser for vibrations, but i think the nose and the tail need a trim or something, they look a little too long.

Can you solder easily while the metal forceps are clamped on?

I have some Ceramic tweezers that are great because I can squeeze the wire under the molten solder without it cooling.

Maybe this is not a problem down under but metal tools harden my solder on contact.

It’s cause gravitational pull is much different down there.

What’s the why of this?

are those solid core wires coming out of the hubs? ??? ( and therefore the why is that those will eventually break from fatigue? )

solid enamel windings, you are used to stranded enamel because that is what the automatic winding machines uses

Did you get the shirt from me too!?

Yup. I do this with tricky shit.

not to speak too much for @quinncfoster but i believe he means “…metal forceps clamped on [the item being soldered]”. not clamped to one’s body for other tricky things.

Yes. If your iron is hot enough, it’s not a problem at all. But i didn’t do that in this situation… the forceps were only there to hold the loose wire on the winding stub while I tightly wrapped the joint with the thinner gauge wire.

The joints that were on them were questionable, and i wanted to make the little winding stub shorter. It’s not the most elegant solution, but I have now ziptied the phases to the hanger to minimize any movement/vibration/fatigue to those little stubs. I may even inject some hot glue to stiffen them up more.

It either never arrived to the yeti or he decided that he needed it more than me. He stooged me on my DRI shirt as well. Dodgy vendor, beware.

Oh, goddamnit. That would work better.

Now that I’m sober, i’m thinking I should have slightly bent those stubs as well… oh well, will send it and see.

Or stop being sober.
Can’t you bend em later, if needed?

Indeed

I mean i should have bent the winding stub before I wrapped and soldered the joint. But I doubt these will come undone, especially with the zipties.
