enclosure spitroaster
Still waiting on catalyst, so i splooged some more caulk on the sides. The shape of this is looking nice for a jacket now.
Will add some keys tomorrow and hopefully my catalyst gets here by the weekend so i can do a final pour coat.
I think this is the final coat of silicone. Added the dregs out of the buckets as a bit of registration, and also did a little live stream of me fucking around and talking shit.

I think I’ll start doing more little impromptu videos like this, was fun.
Please do. Good watch. Also love what you’ve done with your fingernails.
The joys of fatherhood…
Things be happening here… i took the silicone skin off for reasons and this is what it looks like… i’m pretty damn happy.
I can’t get it back onto the buck perfectly, but i think it’s on there good enough.
Lessons learned, moving on to the fibreglass jacket this afternoon. I will experiment with gelcoat on the silicone for this jacket before I attempt to use it in one of the flux enclosures.
Onwards for science
So dude, after your experiments would you use a harder silicone next time? The one you used was 30a, what do u recon is ideal for an enclosure mould? 40a or 50a? Obviously depends on what you need in terms of demoulding and draft on the part etc…?
How much have you been using for the pours in each enclosure mould? Is 1L enough? Or do you need more to build some thickness to it before the jacket? I have a relatively simple shaped buck which is close to finished and considering diving down this rabbit hole.
I think a slightly harder shore would be better yeah. Hard to say how much harder tho, as i only have the 30 to base that off.
For the flux, i used a whopping 5kg but a lot of that i could have used caulk for.
For the haero I used 2.5kg. A fair bit ends up getting wasted as it runs away from the areas where it is needed, this could be combated by brushing the silicone on in many coats, rather than pouring it on in few coats.
For yours, i’d recommend getting at least 2kg. 1kg is cutting it mighty fine. And get a few tubes of cheap silicone caulk from bunnings. Its good for building dams and beefing up the vertical surfaces.
Cheers dude. Haven’t really looked hard but first google result has varying shore hardnesses including 40a and 50a. Haven’t shopped around at all but these are about $100NZD/Litre which is pricey (if I need 5L ). Will have a search and see what I can find. It’s be an easy demould and has heaps of draft so will work in standard mould, but… science
Yeah i get this stuff for about 200AUD for 5kg. Its a tin cure silicone.
If you have a similar range of silicones as we do here, the ones you are looking at are likely a platinum cure silicone, and those ones are much more expensive.
To be fair @rosco if you were very careful not to get bubbles in your application, you could do the whole lot with silicone caulk. Would be fuckin messy tho
Found a local silicone moulding supplier with something that sounds similar. https://stmpro.co.nz/shop/stm-pro-x30-mould-making-silicone.html
Same sort of volume and price. 30a hardness. Will have a better look and see where I get. Thanks Al.
Oh and yeah tube caulk isn’t gonna go well for me. I’m not that careful.
It’s looking pretty good bro
Well now, that looks like something.
That’s the only way to do it in my opinion. Until the day you’re out of xt connections.
