At will alter depending on you gearing/ride style Very roughly

Motor Amps 80A
Motor brake 50A
Absolute max current stupidly high in the 1000
Battery max 80A
Regen 32A

i would do

Motor amps 80
Motor brakes -80
Max current 400
Battery max 60
Regen -30

Not really because of duty cycle.
Motor side will have lower voltage but higher amps. Battery side the voltage canā€™t change (besides voltage sag and drain over the discharge for sure) so in fact the set motor amps do limit the bat amps.

Thanks and super appreciate the invite to ask noob-ish type questions here. This would be more of a what am I missing, or what have I not thought about yet type question. Iā€™m piecing together parts for a street carver/light off-road board. Iā€™m not new to riding, but this will be my first diy assembly. So far Iā€™ve acquired:

-2 decks, mbs comp95 and a flux-motion deck (leaning towards using the flux, but it hasnā€™t arrived yet)
-Matrix 2 trucks, rockstar wheels/tires
-Stormcore 60d
-Hoyt puck w/ receiver
-2x TB 6380 190kv with adapter cables for stormcore
-IDEA belt drive mount set up, 14 and 15 motor gears, 72 tooth wheel hub gear w/ belts
-On waiting list for a Davega

I wasnā€™t confident enough, nor had the tools to construct the battery but through my local makerspace I was introduced to a guy who builds packs for all the bike/scooter/diy project needs for people around my city. Heā€™s shown me examples of his previous work, I feel confident in using his services to help be build the pack. Iā€™m going with a 12s9p worth of 40tā€™s, I caught them on the 3.99 per cell sale.

First uncertainty. I purchased a bms of his recommendation, something he had used before with good result. At the time I didnā€™t fully understand the reasoning behind wiring as charge only, and as he hasnā€™t built an eskate before he didnā€™t really understand the reasoning either. Now that Iā€™ve shared info with him regarding why thatā€™s a common practice with eskates, heā€™s willing to bypass it if I so choose. With that said, the unit we ordered in is sort of large, good for 160amps discharge and has no smart functionality, app monitoring etc. Should I pass on this unit and get something that can better monitor my battery condition, cell balancing etc? Could the stormcore app give me any of that functionality?

Second uncertainty. between the stormcore app and the davega (if it ever comes available) will I have an appropriate amount of power to keep good track of my systems? or am I missing something? Should I scrap the Davega, maybe go for a metr instead? Or scrap them both as the stormcore 60d is powerful enough on its own. The davega was attractive to me as Iā€™m used to seeing battery condition, speed, mileage etc on my other ride, so I wanted to have similar functionality with the new build.

I think thatā€™s kind of it, just a bit confused on the greater functionality of the logging abilities of these devices, how much overlap there is, are they worth having etc etc.

And finally, is there a piece of the puzzle Iā€™m totally missing all together. Iā€™m in Canada so sourcing parts is a pain, long shipping times etc, so trying to get everything here and landed so I can just build when its time to get started. Connectors, wiring all that stuff I can sort local, have a great hobby store right down the street.

I would scrap the bms and go with a smart bms for sure. Not only will that discharge bms be excessively large, without physically accessing it and the connections, you wonā€™t be able to monitor your battery health. I would recommend the LLT smart bms at this stage. https://www.lithiumbatterypcb.com/product/13s-48v-li-ion-battery-pcb-board-54-6v-lithium-bms-with-60a-discharge-current-for-electric-motorcycle-and-e-scooter-protection-2-2-3-2-2-2-2-2/

I canā€™t speak from experience about the stormcore app, but from what I have seen, it seems to have a lot of promising features.

I can speak from experience with the davega and the metr. The davega is pretty coolā€¦ when it works. Iā€™ve had loads of issues with mine, itā€™s much better off in the box that it came in sitting on my shelf. Heaps easier to deal with there. I would say the davega is one of the best options for live data, rather than logging.

As it stands, until the robot man releases his fabled Robogotchi, the Metr Pro is probably the best ride logging tool available. Apart from a few little quirks, I really love my metr and itā€™s one component that I think pretty much every esk8 should have. It will provide live data, comprehensive ride logging and the ability to alter vesc settings over bluetooth. Its a winner.

Thanks a ton for your feedback Glyphiks, super appreciated. Iā€™m going to grab one of those smart bms units you linked to. Does it matter which option I select as far as the lith-ion options they sell? Options from 20a to 60a, but Iā€™m assuming that would be discharge current which I wouldnt be using anyway. Iā€™m thinking the 30amp version would be fine?

Bummer to hear about the issues with the Davega, its really the only live data options Iā€™ve come across, perhaps I can live without a live speed readout hmmm. Ill do some more reading on the metr, seems like an awesome little unit, and reasonably priced.

Thanks again

Metr is a great solution, but donā€™t sleep on the upcoming Robogotchi. Automatic ride logging is super attractive to me.

Is there any sort of time line for the robogotchi?

Next few days/weeks

Entirely possible bro. Keep your eyes trained on where you want to be going - itā€™s safer that way :joy:

Personally donā€™t understand why i would need to know my speed while ridingā€¦? Is it to stop getting pinged for speeding by the cops?

I have my davega for that very specific reason.
Summed up convo with an officer 2 months ago:
ā€œHow fast can it go?ā€
ā€œAs fast as I want but for safety, I never go above 30kmhā€
ā€œAnd how would you know that?ā€
ā€œThis right here is my davega. Gives me speed, battery, distance and tells me if thereā€™s a problem with the boards computerā€
ā€œThatā€™s smart. Have a nice day but keep clear of cars in the futureā€
ā€œYou too officer and I willā€

Thanks for the heads up on the Robogotchi Bill! looks really cool, Iā€™m going to give it a try

Agreed. Itā€™s cool to have but entirely unnecessary.

Why do you set the max total current so high?

40A per motor is not that high most 6355 can take 30% more current

I just got an invoice for the davega. Is it worth getting? If Iā€™m getting the robogatchi?

I bailed on my invoice.

No, max totalā€¦ not motor or battery.

If you have a use for on the spot reading of speed and battery, sure go for it. ROBOGOTCHI will still give all the logging goodies. I personally got it at first cus I used to have a phone strapped to the deck and needed something cleaner.

Also, as CarlSagan42 would say

ā€œSHINYā€
