Epoxied in some phase connectors for the Hummie build. Need smaller crimps to finish some cables before I epoxy in the sensor connectors. The waiting game continues…
mr60s soldered, stock motor cables heatshrinked a bit and are juuuust long enough (whew) for no motor contact (or to pull out plugs ) at full lean
Damn they be some short motor cables.
With cables that short, I suspect you may run into some fatigue of the solder joints at the connector, may I recommend maybe gluing the 3 wires together for the last cm or so before the connector and heatshrink over?
Might save you a phase short somewhere down the line…
Also, once you are all honky dory, do the final connection of the mr60s with a tiny bit of hot glue inside the connection. I’ve found that those bastards like to work their way out when you have one half fixed and one half free to move
Cheers bro, yeah the longest is 148mm. Really short. Didn’t want to have to extend them . I’ve used liquid electrical tape on the soldered joints and after your suggestion will glue them together over that to keep that connection strong. Maybe a thin coat of thickened epoxy (for risk of sounding like Brian)
I’ve been nervous about the connectors coming loose and had planned to adhesive heatshrink them in when I’m all up and ready to go (that’s why I left the female plugs extending out of enclosure by a reasonable amount). Can always cut heatshrink off later if needed.
Maybe a bit of hot glue could be another option. Hmm. Just on the exterior of the female plug?

I’ve found if you hot glue the joint and then quickly snap on the grey cap while the glue is still hot (you must be quick) you end up with a solid semi-permanent solution. You’ll need a heatgun if you ever need to rework the joints (as to remove the cap and remove the glue).
Alas I thought this would be enough on my 4wd build, but it definitely wasn’t. I would still recommend trying to stiffen the wires to the connector for at least a cm past the joint/grey cap. Epoxy would be ideal, especially if you can get a good bond to the cap.
But I will need to. Tested the motors with shorter cables and unfortunately they pull pretty tight at full lean and it doesn’t look too durable.

Bummer dude. Can you bring the mr60s out of the enclosure to gain length that way?
They’re epoxied in place and already sticking out a decent way. Probably can’t change them to stick out any more. Shame cos maybe 10 to 15mm more phase wire length and that one would prob be ok I reckon.
Maybe ill cut back motor wires and splice on some extensions
Or make a shitty extra cable to connect these to the enclosure. Don’t really like this, but I also hate splicing cables so…
They could use an extra 75mm or so. That way I can route the cables centrally on the deck and well away from spinning motor cans.

That’s probably what I’ll do. The prospect of cutting these cables and splicing on new bits doesn’t fill me with joy.

And can’t raise the mount up to compensate for the downward angle either. Looks cool with the wires out the back anyway.
