Why not just a layer of fiberglass in the middle?

The wood block is 1200mm, standing platform about 780-800ish.

My Hummie and the Root Shark are both about 680mm measuring from same sort of spot

For strength of the mould. Cheap and fast
Edit - like this :joy: the central rail not the sticks

@glyphiks - please change my title to “the dustmaker” :joy:

The blank continues to shrink, started routing and sanding to form the concave.

Still a lot more dust to make :mask:

Taking some shape.
Happy with how it’s looking :+1:

I really like the look of the little Ws in there :ok_hand:

What is the rear truck mount position doing? Why that little channel there?

Gonna form a little bit of convex side to side at the edges of the rear truck mount to help stiffen it. Flat across truck mount and a very gentle downturn on the edges. The plan is that the the vertical shaping of the downturn will increase the stiffness at that area.

Might do a very gentle concave at sides of the front truck mount area, for a similar reason. Complex shapes are stiffer than flat sheets, and easy to form with fabric layups (compared to veneer)

Polyester primer brushed on cos bloody spray gun broken.
Half assed sanding job giving the mould some funky wood grain effects.

6 coats of release wax so far. A few more needed. Then PVA (but need spray gun working… :man_facepalming:)
Finish is rustic, but ok for the first experiment. Just waiting on resin - 20L resin Vinyl ester on the way😂

Am gonna try and make it with resin infusion.
Not sure how my infusion is actually gonna work with the Spheretex SBC core I’m using though. I’m reading up to try and find info from others who’ve used it. Hopefully get some advice from the shop when they answer their phone.
Probably a couple weeks away still unfortunately.
Cut some fabric today tho. A little bit more prep then it’s just waiting for resin (and a time slot).

Fuck yeah dude. I hope the core is good for infusion, would hate to see any hold ups. Super stoked that I have you doing all this shit before me

Haha. It’s made for hand layup but I think it should be ok as long as I can get the flow medium layout sussed. It’s quite thick so making sure it wets out evenly might be hard.

Backup option is make it in 3 steps. Infusion for top layers, cure, hand layup for FG and core and FG layer then cure and then infusion for base layers.

Lots more work, but reduces risk of fuckups.

Will wait and see what the dudes at the shop say.

As always, i will be here patiently waiting.

Core material research update. Got the info from shop dudes. Finally answered their phone.

SBC core that I have isn’t ideal for infusion, although it can be done. Needs reduced vacuum pressure and care to ensure it doesn’t crush and or block flow and the wet out isn’t affected in other parts of the layup.

Luckily shop has an alternative made for infusion so it’s ordered and on the way. :joy:
3mm thick, apparently has a honeycomb type structure for resisting vacuum pressure and providing flow paths. :ok_hand:

Looks like just the stuff :ok_hand:

Just waiting on resin and a timeslot.
