#sciencebegins
starting fabric layup today/tonight
Maybe infusion tomorrow!!!
Gonna try double bag this time for weight savings and better fabric/resin ratio.
Hoooly shit its happening! Looks great!
Fuck.
Opened resin tin and has all solidified a bit. Unusable
Call to supplier and the waiting game for new supplies.
Edit- upside is the double bag setup seems well sealed
Use it or lose it! Stoked that the bag is holding up! That’s a very good omen!
I need updates Ross. What the fuck is happening over there?
I’m waiting.
My resin is getting made this week, Anzac Day tomorrow so probably gets made Tuesday or Wednesday and shipped end of the week. It’s made to order.
Made in Auckland and it’s dangerous goods (ground) shipping so takes 5-8 days. Realistically I’m ten days away or two weeks cos I probably have to do it on a weekend. It was a fuck up.
But I’m gonna try and do some other shit.
Mucking round with idea for top mount enclosure and working on other small boring bits and bobs.
Epoxied some sensor plugs into an enclosure today. Did the hot glue temporary weld thing to hold them in place while epoxy set and then ripped that glue off and did the other side.
Pic before epoxying the inside.
Brave man epoxying connectors in. I’ve done it a few times and never again
That does not look fun to solder
Infusion time!
Lesson time:
Double bag is hard to see any resin flow so no idea how the infusion front was moving.
Also use clear tubing to catch pot haha.
Curing resin. Hot
Holy shit you need a catch cup in your catch pot
Must have been a good amount of resin in there to do that. This is hopeful for the final weight!
I’ll be happy if it’s less than 2.9kg
Off the mould, looks like the infusion went well
Stripped mesh, peel ply and tubing, blank weighs 3.7kg (at 300mm width, 1200mm long) . Trimmed to shape, if I cut say 20%? area off will be 2.96kg ish. Or cut by say 30% area is 2.59kg ish
Cut it! How will you even cut it? Grinder?
Probably hacksaw and then sandpaper.
